Fulfilling Your
Dream of Flight

Skybound LSA provides both Trike and
3-Axis Airplane flight instruction for the new FAA Sport Pilot rating.
Starts
out with
an introductory flying lesson, then a commitment on your part to complete your training
through your first solo flight. At this point you will start hour long flight lessons
and ground school instruction. This phase will take a week or two to prepare you
for your first solo flight knowing that all instruction is to FAA Light Sport
Aircraft Standards. Skybound LSA is a Sport Pilot Training
Center and an USUA approved flight school. Skybound LSA has a full time
Certified Flight Instructor (CFI)
with over 2000 hours of instructor time in Trikes and fixed wing 3-Axis Aircraft.
Aircraft
Safety
During the many years that trikes have been flown
around the world they have earned the reputation of being the safest and most
economic form of recreational aviation available. Trike flight in the USA has
grown at a slower pace because of Ultralight flight rules. Now that the Sport
Pilot license has been approved by the FAA and a new classification for Light
Sport Aircraft, the Trike industry is expecting a huge migration to this
exciting segment of aviation.
All our LSA Trikes are certified aircraft that must conform to structural and
performance standards laid down by the FAA. These strict standards mean that this type of aircraft is as strong and
in some cases stronger than conventional or General Aviation aircraft.
With the flight characteristics of no discernable stall, nearly impossible to
spin and no moving parts other than the hang block between the trike and the
wing; all turns become self coordinating, which makes a trike as safe, as it is
fun to fly. Trikes handle rough air as well as a 3-axis aircraft, give a
smoother flight and will out maneuver 3-axis aircraft. Transportation and
storage is where trikes really excel as aircraft.
Book an introductory flight and have the time of your life. We have all
dreamed of flight at some time, but to experience for yourself the thrill of
soaring through the air with the greatest of ease is something very special
indeed. Every pilot knows this feeling and everyone one who has ever taken
an introductory flight will never forget it.
Introductory Flight Lesson:
$75.00
Get the feel of what it is like to fly like a bird with an introductory flight.
Only then will you know if flying a Light Sport Aircraft called a Trike is for
you. A typical introductory flight will have you airborne for about 20 minutes.
Dual Flight Training $160.00 per hour
You will need to take 15 hours of dual flight instruction and 5 hours of Solo
flight, typically 1 or
2 hours a day to achieve smooth air solo competency. We have no prerequisite
hours to Solo. Solo flight is based on a student's competency; not time. Please
call for scheduling.
Weekend
Flight School
In our weekend flight school you will be given
as many flight hours as you can safely handle, and the weather will allow. This
will familiarize the you with basic Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) operating procedures and the
flying characteristics of the Trike. From experience we know the average student
Sport Pilot or Ultralight Pilot's stamina cannot take more than 2 hrs of flight time per day. At the end of your
weekend you will have a good grasp of what LSA Trike flight entails. You will
also have a good
foundation to build upon in your future Sport Pilot Training or Ultralight Pilot
Training program.
Week-long
Flying Program
The week long Sport Pilot Training or Ultralight
Pilot Training program will allow you to
fly mornings and evenings in the best conditions to maximize your Sport Pilot Training
or Ultralight Pilot Lesson time during
your stay. As your ability level increases you may well take a few flights up
in the afternoon thermals and bumps so you can experience what hot summer
afternoon flying conditions are like. However, most low time Sport Pilots choose not
to fly at this time of the day, in fact most Ultralight Pilots don’t fly at this
time of the day period. If you choose this option, you will gain the necessary experience to
fly in
such conditions if and when you encounter them. Know ahead of time, that you may not be too happy staying up there
too long.
At the end of the first week the average student Sport Pilot or Ultralight
Pilot will be well on their way
towards later Solo flight.
During your week some of the topics to be covered will be LSA and Ultralight Aircraft
familiarization, pre-flight inspection, pre-start of engine and pre-take off
procedures, principles of flight, rules of the air, taxiing and control of the
aircraft on the ground, basic meteorology, radio usage where applicable, basic
navigation, safe take off procedures, straight and level flight, holding a
ground track, crabbing, medium level turns, climbing and descending, landing and touch-and-go plus stalls and steeper
turns. Of course subject to weather and the students stamina, more than or less
of the above will be covered.
By the time
you've completed your Sport Pilot or Ultralight Pilot Training with us you will have executed hundreds of
takeoffs and landings, covered emergency procedures, learned to negotiate
traffic patterns, performed basic cross-country navigation, and much more.
